- I've been reading to my daughter since she was 5 months, I don't think it's ever too early. She loves to look at the pics and hear mommy's voice. At 5 months, she'd just grab at the book, but she's 9 months now and actually sits still through it. She points at the pictures and oohs and ahhs.
- You can start now by reading to him. If you read to him every day he will grow up loving to read.
- It's not too early!! Sit him on your lap, facing outward so that he is looking at the book while you're reading it to him. Just stick to short books and don't push the issue if he doesn't want to sit still. Bedtime is perfect, I think, when things are winding down. My son loved books and still does. Before he could talk, he would sit on the floor and turn pages and babble like he was reading.
- I started reading to my daughter in the womb, she has bath books, books you play with while in the tub ect. She is going to be a year on Mon. and she loves her books she goes over and gets a book out for me to read to her before she goes to sleep. My mother did the same with me(not the bath books)she read to me all the time,I loved my books, and still do.
- It's absolutely not too early! Reading to your baby is one of the best things you can do from early on. I try to read to my son almost every day, even if it's only for a few minutes. Good luck!
- I feel like it is never to early to read to your child! Just read everyday and I think they will pick up the habit and love to read as well!
- provide him with plenty of board books. at first he will just chew them but he won't damage them. in a couple of months he will flip through them and look at how the pictures change. he will be content to sit on your lap and have you read as he flips the pages (maybe not at the appropriate time :-) by toddler age, you may find him flipping through and trying to recite the words, or making up his own. it's not really reading but it's a solid interest in books. seperately you can work on the letters little by little.
- My son has tons of books and he's not even one yet. I see him go to his toy box and take out a book and look at it. That makes me so proud! Just buy a lot of fun pop- up books, lift the flap books, dr suess, and touch and feel books. Read to him everyday if you can. Tell your sitter to read to him. I heard it makes them have higher test scores later in life if you read to them now.
- He is never too young for books! Reading to your baby is very important! I read to my baby from the time she was two days old when we came home from the hospital. She is 15 months and still loves it when we read to her. We read every single day!
- Make reading a special thing that you do with him. Like before bedtime and you can hold him and read a book. Show interest in books and reading yourself. Kids always want to do what their parents do. My son is 8 months old and he loves any kind of reading material. He loves magazines, newspapers, books. Though he is just really into ripping them right now. But I read to him all the time and he likes to look at the books and at my mouth as I say the words. Reading also helps with their language development. When he gets older, get him books on things he shows interest in - like sports or animals. http://1sttimeparents-whatdowedonow.blogspot.com
- I've always read to my daughter. She's nine months old now, and loves her books, and will anticipate different parts of her favorite books (when ever it says "kiss," I give her a big kiss). I bought lots of board books and cloth books, so she can play with them and look at them, and she likes to chew on them. Anything to make her like them.
- Read to your baby often. More importantly, let him see YOU reading (and obviously enjoying it) as often as possible.
- I have been reading to my daughter since she was 3 months old. I normally read her twice a day. One in the afternoon, and one before bed.
- Nope! It is NEVER too early too to begin reading to your child. I started reading to my son at a few days old. At almost 6 months he LOVES to be read too.
- I was just looking into this today. http://www2.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=1522
- My husband and I have been reading to our son since he came home. Every night we read him a story before he goes to bed. I am an early childhood teacher and a reading specialist. My suggestion is to read something short with lots of color changes. As soon as he seems un-interested in the story stop reading for the night! This way there is always a joy for reading!
